The Help Trailer – Plus new pics from the Emma Stone and Viola Davis flick

19th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

While race is always a tricky issue to deal with – which is probably why Hollywood often handles it so badly, as you are potentially stepping into a minefield, so they tend to avoid anything even potentially difficult – The Help tackles it head-on, taking us to the American South in the 1960s, when every middle-class white woman had a black ‘help’, who was treated as barely a second class citizen.

Based on Kathryn Stockett’s bestselling novel, here’s the official synopsis: ‘The Help stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.’

The movie is currently scheduled to hit the UK on October 28th, but click below to watch the new trailer, and we’ve also got three new stills from the movie you can take a gander at.

Casa De Mi Padre Trailer – Will Ferrell goes Spanish language

18th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

Will Ferrell deciding to make a Spanish-language movie always sounded like a strange proposition and to be honest that opinion is unlikely to be changed by the trailer for Casa De Mi Padre. The film, made in the overblown, melodramatic stlye of Latin American telenovelas, see Ferrell as Armando Alvarez, whoe has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal). The film should hit cinemas mater this year.

Sleeping Beauty Red Band Trailer – Emily Browning stars in the unusual Cannes competing film

15th April 2011 By Tim Isaac

If you’re expecting a sweet little adaptation of the fairy tale, prepare to be surprised, as this is something very different, and a trailer that makes Sleeping Beauty look like a very unusual film. It’s going to compete at Cannes, giving it some cachet, but what it Julia Leigh’s movie all about? In the Sleeping Beauty Chamber old men seek an erotic experience that requires Lucy’s absolute submission. This unsettling task starts to bleed into Lucy’s daily life and she develops an increasing need to know what happens to her when she is asleep.

However Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by alien marauders from the sky. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation.
