Midnight’s Children Trailer – Take a look at the Salman Rushdie adaptation

27th September 2012 By Tim Isaac

Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children won the Booker Prize back in 1981, but it’s only now that a movie version has been made, which debuted at TIFF earlier this month. Oscar nominated director Deepa Mehta, is behind the film, which takes on Rushdie’s magical realist novel about the destinies of a pair of children born at the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, the very moment that India claimed its independence from Great Britain. Switched at birth by a nurse in a Bombay hospital, Saleem Sinai (Satya Bhabha), the son of a poor single mother, and Shiva (Siddharth), scion of a wealthy family, are condemned to live out the fate intended for the other. Imbued with mysterious telepathic powers, their lives become strangely intertwined and inextricably linked to their country’s careening journey through the tumultuous twentieth century. The film play the London Film Festival next month, but no full UK release is currently set.

Stoker Trailer – Park Chan-Wook’s English-language debut gets a promo

27th September 2012 By Tim Isaac

There’s been a lot of interest in Stoker, largely because it marks the English-language debut of South Korean Oldboy helmer, Park Chan-Wook (and also because it’s written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller). Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived. The film is about India (Mia Wasikowska’s), whose father dies in an auto accident. Shortly afterwards her Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Nicolne Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him. It’s currently set for release in the UK on March 1st, 2013.

Identity Thief Trailer – Melissa McCarthy steals Jason Bateman’s life!

27th September 2012 By Tim Isaac

Jason Bateman teaming up with Melissa McCarthy seemed like a great idea from the moment Identity Thief was announced. Now the trailer for the movie has arrived, which suggests McCarthy is really going to be let loose to go totally mental. She plays Diana who has unlimited funds to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads ‘Sandy Bigelow Patterson’ and it belongs to an accounts rep (Jason Bateman) who lives halfway across the U.S. With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back. The film hits UK cinemas March 1st, 2013.

New Paranormal Activity 4 Trailer – What happened to Katie & Hunter?

27th September 2012 By Tim Isaac

After Paranormal Activity 2 & 3 took us further and further into the past, we’re finally moving forward to discover what happened to Katie and Hunter after they disappeared. A new trailer gives us our best look at the plot yet, with Hunter now several years older but apparently still surrounded by a lot of creepy crap. Luckily he’s moved in near some teens who seem just as obsessed with filming every moment of their life as his own folks were. Plus things get a little more techy with the use of an Xbox Kinect. The film hits UK cinemas on October 17th.

Promised Land Trailer Arrives – John Krasinski and Matt Damon face off

24th September 2012 By Tim Isaac

Matt Damon reunites with Gus Van Sant for Promised Land, with Damon teaming up with John Krasinski to write the screenplay, along with a story credit for author Dave Eggers. Corporate salesman Steve Butler (Matt Damon) arrives in a rural town with his sales partner, Sue Thomason (Frances McDormand). With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Hal Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (John Krasinski) who counters Steve both personally and professionally. It’s due out in the US in early January, but no UK date is currently set.
