World War Z always sounded like a cool movie – Brad Pitt taking on a zombie apocalypse, with a huge budget for special effects – but it’s been a rather troubled production. The studio demanded extensive reshoots, including rewriting and completely overhauling the final thirs of the film. Hopefully they’ve sorted the issues out and the final film will work well. Now we get our first chance to take a look at the film, with some brief footage from ET, showing what appears to be a really big movie. It also promises we should get more on Thursday. It’s due out June 21st 2013.
New Lincoln International Trailer – Take a look at Spielberg’s film in all its glory
During its US preview screenings, Spielberg’s Lincoln has been getting pretty good reviews, and while we in the UK have to wait until January 25th, 2013 to see it, a new trailer has arrived giving us a look at the film’s scope and intricate production design. Personally we reckon it’ll be worth watching just for Tommy Le Jones’ lovely wig.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln, a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th Presidents tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.
‘Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones, “Lincoln is produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, with a screenplay by Tony Kushner, based in part on the book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The DreamWorks Pictures/Twentieth Century Fox film, in association with Participant Media, releases in UK cinemas on January 25th, 2013.’
Watch Pixar Short La Luna – Take a look at the full endearing toon
Pixar may be lauded for their feature-length movies, but they’ve also produced a range of great short, including La Luna, which featured alongside Brave when it was released this summer. The short will be included on the Brave Blu-ray and is also on the Pixar Short Film Collection 2, which will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on November 12th. Now the full La Luna short has popped up online, courtesy of The Animation Blog.
It’s a sweet tale, obviously inspired by the likes of The Little Prince, about a boy who ends up in a rowboat at night with his father and grandfather. He doesn’t seems certain why he’s there, but then he discovers just how important their job is. Take a look at it below.
Side Effects Trailer – Rooney Mara gets medicated in Steven Soderbergh’s film
Steven Soderbergh has said this will be his last theatrical feature before he retires (the Liberarace TV movie Behind The Candelabra is still to come). Whether he really down leave cinema behind is yet to be seen, after all, he’s been threatening to retire for year, but not the first trailer for Side Effects has arrived, which is another of his star-studded tales.
This one has Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and is about a woman (Mara) who turns to prescription medication to deal with her anxiety over her husbands (Tatum) release from prison. She begins to take a new brand of anti-depressant, prescribed by a doctor (Jude Law), who seems to have more than a professional interest in her. Before long, everything spirals badly out of control, when it appears a murder has been committed. Watch the trailer after the jump.
The film is set for release in the UK on March 15th, 2013. It certainly looks like it’ll be a dramatic one.
New GI Joe: Retaliation International Trailer – With added Channing Tatum
When GI Joe: Retaliation was delayed from last August to next March, the official reason was so they could convert it to 3D. However many wondered if there were major problems with the movie, which seemed to be confirmed when reshoots were ordered. However it now seems that the main issue was that Paramount made a major miscalculation about Channing Tatum. He was the main star of the first GI Joe film, but then they decided that while he’d be in the follow-up, he’d be majorly sidelined. Then he became one of the biggest stars around and so the reshoots were apparently mainly about reinserting him as a main character. That’s noticeable here. In earlier marketing Tatum was pretty much invisible – he didn’t even make it into many of the posters or trailers at all – he’s very visible at the beginning of this new trailer, alongside Bruce Willis and The Rock. The film hits UK cinemas March 27th, 2013.
Despicable Me 2 Trailer – Gru is back and the minions are in trouble
Despicable Me was an unexpected treat when it arrived in cinemas in 2012, so the idea of a sequel in more than welcome. It’s due in cinemas June 2013, and now a new trailer for the movie has arrived, suggesting there’s plenty more drama for Gru and his minions to deal with. Something seems keen to steal the minions, which just isn’t right! Unsurprisingly the trailer concentrates on the little yellow creatures, who’ve proved so popular they’re also getting their own spin-off film.
