Mental Trailer – Toni Collette reunites with the director of Muriel’s Wedding

12th November 2012 By Tim Isaac

Having Toni Collette as your nanny sounds like it’d be quite fun, but in Mental she certainly shakes up a family where all the daughters think they’re mental. The film sees her reunite with director PJ Hogan for the first time since Muriel’s Wedding. Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Moochmore girls are certain they all suffer from some kind of undiagnosed mental illness – because if they’re not crazy then they’re just unpopular. Their mother Shirley (Rebecca Gibney) – unable to cope with her demanding daughters and unsupported by her philandering politician husband, Barry (Anthony LaPaglia) – suffers a nervous breakdown. After Barry commits his wife to a mental hospital (telling his constituents that “she’s on holiday”) he finds himself alone with 5 teenage girls he barely knows. Desperate, he impulsively picks up a hitchhiker named Shaz (Collette) and installs her in his home as nanny to his daughters.’ The movie is out on November 16th.

New UK Les Miserables Trailer – Can you hear Russell Crowe sing?

9th November 2012 By Tim Isaac

It seems the film version of Les Miserables will feature more dialogue than the almost completely sung stage version, as evidenced in this trailer – although there’s still plenty of singing going on, including our first chance to hear Russell Crowe flexing his pipes and Javert.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Les Misérables is the motion-picture adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year. Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award®-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

‘Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

‘In January 2012, the world’s longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in Tom Hooper’s sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale. With international superstars and beloved songs—including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More” and “On My Own”—Les Misérables, the show of shows, is now reborn as the cinematic musical experience of a lifetime.’

World War Z Trailer Arrives – Brad Pitt faces zombies on an epic scale

9th November 2012 By Tim Isaac

World War Z may have had a troubled production, with massive reshoots that saw the entire end of te movie needing to be rejigged, but on the evidence of this trailer we may be in for a treat, with a zombie apocalypse told on a larger scale than we’ve ever seen before. And these are the fast moving, 28 Days Later style zombie, who in the trailer act like a mass force of inhumanity.

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Merielle Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Daniella Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

The movie is due out June 21st 2013 (the reshoots delayed it from a planned Christmas 2012 release), so expect plenty more footage and info before then.

Jurassic Park 3D Trailer – Just imagine the dinosaurs coming at you

9th November 2012 By Tim Isaac

Trailers for 3D re-releases on the internet are slightly awkward because of course they’re in 2D, so you just have to imagine there’s an extra dimension jumping out at you. That’s not too difficult with Jurassic Park, which had dinos coming to get you even in two-dimensions. The trailer for next April’s 3D conversion has now arrived, which is a good reminder of why this is such a fun film, which became the highest grossing movie ever on its initial release.

It’s one of the few 3D re-releases you can imagine really offering something extra, and hopefully they’ll have done it well (I can’t imagine Spielberg approving it if they haven’t). Will you be going to watch it when it arrives back in cinemas next spring?).

So take a look to see Sam Neill and co. be first amazed and then terrified when they arrives on John Hammond’s prehistorically bountiful island.

Warm Bodies Trailer – Nicholas Hoult is the ultimate zombie boyfriend

9th November 2012 By Tim Isaac

Warm Bodies looks like it could be a lot of fun – the rom-com meets to zombie movie, all told from the undead’s point of view. The trailer suggests plenty of silly humour and a bit of heart.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘WARM BODIES is an upcoming 2013 romantic zombie film based on Isaac Marion’s popular novel of the same name. Directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50), the film stars Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy/Beast in the 2011 film X-Men: First Class) and Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four).’

‘R (Hoult) is a zombie. After a zombie apocalypse, he shambles across an America filled with collapsed buildings, rusted cars, shattered windows, and abandoned high-rises. He can only grunt or moan and craves human brains to get high on their memories. After eating the brains of a suicidal teen, R is overcome with love for the teen’s companion, Julie Grigio (Palmer). R rescues Julie from his zombie pack and takes her back to his lair. She eventually leaves, and R follows her back to Citi Stadium, the largest remaining human refuge.’

Their developing relationship may completely transform the undead world. It’s due out February 8th 2013.

New The Last Stand Trailer – Arnie gets his guns out once more

8th November 2012 By Tim Isaac

Arnie is back and it looks like while he’s not trying to hide he’s aging, he can still get the bigs guns out and bring the action. After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow. Take a look at the new trailer. It hits cinemas January 25th.
