Trance Trailer – First look at James McAvoy in Danny Boyle’s film

10th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

We’ve previously written about Trance’s interesting production process, where Danny Boyle shot the movie in late 2011, then went off to put the Olympic Opening Ceremony together, before going back to do post-production on the movie. Now it’s March 27th release is approaching and the first rather stylish and fast-paced trailer had arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award® winning director Danny Boyle returns to the big screen with this psychological thriller about a fine art auctioneer, mixed up with a criminal gang, who join forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting. TRANCE stars James McAvoy (Atonement, X-Men First Class), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan, Mesrine) and Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds, Sin City).’

Girls Against Boys Trailer – The battle of the sexes gets violent

9th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

A title like Boys Against Girls sounds like it should be a teen flick, but as this trailer shows, the movie is anything but.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When Shae (Danielle Panabaker), a naïve college student, is tormented by several men in a matter of days, she reaches her breaking point, and is drawn into coworker Lu’s (Nicole LaLiberte) twisted plan for revenge. Together, the two embark on a gruesome killing spree, terrorizing and brutally murdering not just their attackers, but any man who gets in their way. However, after a wild weekend of retaliation, the friendship between the girls shifts into a dangerous obsession, and their perverse game becomes a desperate struggle for Shae to maintain control against Lu’s deadly and seductive influence.’

The film reaches the US in early February, but no UK release date is currently set.

The Last Exorcism Part II Trailer – This one’s going to be even last-erer

9th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

They should have thought that calling a film The Last Exorcism makes any sequels sound a bit daft, but the 2010 movie was successful enough to get a Part 2, and now the trailer and poster for the sequel has arrived. However, while the first film was a ‘found footage’ effort, it appears this one if a conventional movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. Back in the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.’

Expect it in cinemas March 15th.

Pacific Rim CES Trailer – Guillermo Del Toro shows off more monster madness

8th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

It’s always a big job selling massive budget movies based on new ideas, partly because studios are so paranoid about have spent hundreds of millions on something nobody knows anything about. As a result, the publicity blitz for Pacific Rim has started early, with a second trailer released just a few weeks after the first.

It all looks rather cool in this CES promo, with Idris Elba introducing us to the 300ft tall monsters that are spewing out of a portal deep beneath the Pacific and attacking the coast, and so humanity fights back with gargantuan robots piloted by people.

The film is due out July 12th, 2013.

The Last Stand Red Band Trailer – Arnie is keeping things R rated

8th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

If you were worried that reaching his 60s and spending time as Governor of California would make Arnold Schwarzenegger soft, this new red band trailer for The Last Stand is here to show us he has no plans to wuss out on the swearing and blood flying.

In the film, after leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow. It’s nice in the trailer that Arnie acknowledges he’s getting older, while still piling on the action.

The film hits UK cinemas on January 25th.

Only God Forgives Teaser Clip – Ryan Gosling gets punched in the face

7th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

Drive got a lot of fans thanks to its andrenaline packed mix of tension and violence, so many will be glad to hear Ryan Gosling has reunited with director Nicolas Winding Refn for Only God Forgives. Most of what we’ve seen on the film so far have been images of Ryan Gosling with a pummeled face, and now a brief teaser has shown up online, which gives us a look at how Gosling gets batters and bruised.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.’

It looks likely the movie will premiere at Cannes, and hopefully a release will come shortly afterwards.
