Red 2 Trailer – Bruce Willis and co. are back in action

18th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

Red was a surprise success in 2010, attracting an older audience to an action film than would normally go to the multitude of young guy oriented flicks we get each year. Now a sequel is on its way and the trailer is here.

The likes of Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich are back, this time joined by the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins and David Thewlis.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process.’

The film hits cinemas in the UK on August 2nd.

Emperor Trailer – Tommy Lee Jones turns army general

18th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

Tommy Lee Jones is currently waiting to see if he will win an Oscar for playing for playing Thaddeus Stevens in Lincoln, and it appear he may be trying to line up next year’s Oscar nom with The General.

Peter Webber’s film follows General Douglas MacArthur who found himself in the unusual position of being the de facto ruler of Japan at the end of World War II. However while he’s good at fighting the Japanese, he doesn’t known all that much about their culture, so he brings in an expert, General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox), to help determine whether Japanese emperor Hirohito, should be hanged for war crimes. Fellers opinion may be coloured by memories of a relationship with Aya (Eriko Hatsune), a Japanese exchange student he met in the US before Pearl Harbor.

There’s no news on when we might see the film, but you can watch the trailer below.

kink Trailer – James Franco looks into the world of BDSM

18th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

James Franco sure is getting kinky in the next couple of weeks at Sundance. He appears in porn star Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace, co-directs the gay S&M art film Interior Leather Bar and presents the documentary kink (the lack of capital letters is deliberate), about the BDSM website kink.com.

The trailer for kink has now arrives, which suggests the doc will largely be about how behing the ball gags, ropes and whips, those involved in the site are just normal folks.

Here’s the synopsis, ‘Director Christina Voros and producer James Franco pull back the curtain on the fetish empire of Kink.com, the Internet’s largest producer of BDSM content. In a particularly obscure corner of an industry that operates largely out of public view, Kink.com’s directors and models strive for authenticity. In an enterprise often known for exploitative practices, Kink.com upholds an ironclad set of values to foster an environment that is safe, sane, and consensual. They aim to demystify the BDSM lifestyle, and to serve as an example and an educational resource for the BDSM community. In kink, we discover not only a fascinating and often misunderstood subculture, but also, in a career far from the mainstream, a group of intelligent, charismatic, and driven people who really, truly love what they do.’

New The Iceman Trailer – Michael Shannon turns serial killer

17th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

The Iceman is based on the true story of notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski, nicknamed ‘The Iceman’. Michael Shannon stars as the real-life hitman who in 1986 was convicted of murdering 100 men for various crime organisations around the New York area.

The twist to Kuklinski’s story was that he was also a devoted husband and father whose family was unaware of his real profession until his arrest, he was also a bona fide serial killer, having started killing people long before he took it up as a profession – however the Mafia realised his skills and so hired him.

James Franco, Chris Evans, Ray Liotta, David Schwimmer, Stephen Dorff and Wynona Ryder also star. It’s due to reach UK cinemas in June.

Mud Trailer – Matthew McConaughey is on the run and looking for Reese Witherspoon

17th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

After the 2012 triple whammy of Bernie, Magic Mike, and Killer Joe, Matthew McConaughey is trying to keep the momentum into 2013 with Mud, a coming of age tale from Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols, which has shades of Stand By Me and Whistle Down The Wind.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Two boys, Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and his friend Neckbone (Jacob Lofland), who find a man named Mud (McConaughey) hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Mud describes fantastic scenarios — he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon), who is waiting for him in town. Skeptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him. It isn’t long until Mud’s visions come true and their small town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of bounty hunters in tow.

No UK date is set yet but it reaches the US in April.

The Canyons Clip – Take a look at Lindsay Lohan & James Deen in the Bret Easton Ellis tale

17th January 2013 By Tim Isaac

The Canyons is definitely an intriguing movie. Despite having Paul Schrader directing and a script from American Psycho’s Bret Easton Ellis, it was part funded through Kickstarter. It also stars the human trainwreck that is Lindsay Lohan, and porn star James Deen.

Last week a fascinating article did the rounds about the difficulties the production faced – many of which were due to Lohan, who comes across as someone desperate to turn things around but simultaneously oblivious to how self-destructive she’s being. This week there have also been suggestions it’s her erratic behaviour that caused the Sundance organisers to reject the movie (although it will be screened privately for potential buyers at the end of the month).

From what we’ve seen so far it’s been a little difficult to tell exactly what the movie is, as the ‘spoof’ trailers we’ve had, have painted it as a grindhouse movie and a 50s noir, even though it’s actually a contemporary LA thriller. However now we get our first lengthy clip from the movie, featuring Lohan creeping around looking for her phone while Deen sleeps. We have to say, the acting shown by the leads isn’t amazing, but we’re certainly intrigued to see the final film.
