The Conjuring Trailer – Lili Taylor, Vera Farmiga & Patrick Wilson have creepy troubles

28th February 2013 By Tim Isaac

The Conjuring is another one of those creepy paranormal tales that’s supposedly based on a true story, although quite how true it is, is highly debatable. Now we get out first chance to judge its veracity with a slightly creepy trailer (along with the new poster above).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorised by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.’

Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor and Joey King star. A July 19th UK & US release date is set.

Family Weekend Trailer – Kristin Chenoweth & Matthew Modine get all tied up

26th February 2013 By Tim Isaac

Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Modine are having more than a few problems as parent in Family Weekend.

Olesya Rulin plays their 16-year-old overachiever who decides to tie her parents up and try to bring her family back together after they miss her jump-rope competition. Chenoweth is the career-driven mother and Matthew Modine plays the carefree artist dad, who might not be contributing much to the family financially.

The first trailer and poster for the movie has now arrived (probably tied to Chenoweth’s presence at the end of the Oscars). No UK date is set, but it reaches the US on March 29th.

Kon-Tiki Trailer – New promo the the Oscar-nominated flick

25th February 2013 By Tim Isaac

Kon-Tiki may have missed out on the Best Foreign Language film Oscar to Amour last night, but it still certainly seems like it’ll be worth a look (although watching this trailer, I’m not sure why it was in the Best Foreign Language category as everyone appears to speak English, but presumably there’s some Norwegian in the actual movie).

Here’s the synopsis for the biopic: ‘In 1947, the world is gripped with excitement as the young Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl embarks on an astonishing expedition – a journey of 4,300 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean on the Kon-Tiki raft. From his days living in the Marquesas with his wife Liv, Thor suspected that the South Sea Islands had been settled by ancient South Americans from thousands of miles to the east. Despite his inability to swim and fear of water, Thor decides to prove his theory by sailing the legendary voyage himself. After replicating the design of an ancient raft in balsa wood, Thor and five fellow adventurers set sail from Peru. Their only modern equipment is a radio, and they take a parrot along for company. A natural leader, Thor uses the stars and the ocean’s current to navigate the raft. After three dangerous months on the open sea, encountering raging storms, sharks, and all the dangers the Ocean can muster, the exhausted crew sight Polynesia and make a triumphant landing. Having sacrificed everything for his mission, even his marriage, the success of the Kon-Tiki expedition proves bittersweet for Thor.’

No UK release date is currently set, but it’ll be out in the US on April 19th.

New Trailer For The Call – Halle Berry turns 911 call operator for Brad Anderson

22nd February 2013 By Tim Isaac

Brad Anderson’s (The Machinist) new movie sees Jalle Berry as a 911 operator who gets call from a kidnapped teenager (Abigail Breslin). She soon realises that the abduction has ties to an incident from her past, and that she must face her demons if the girl is to get out alive.

It’s one of those premises that could make for an okay movie, but already sounds slightly unbelievable and OTT. Hopefully the film will be okay. Check out the trailer below. No UK date is currently set, but it’s out in the US in March.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Trailer – Take a look at Mira Nair’s film

21st February 2013 By Tim Isaac

The Reluctant Fundamentalist provoked some strong reactions – both positive and negative – during its festival fun last autumn. We’ll be able to find out for ourselves what the movie is like in April, when it arrives in cinemas, and ahead of that the trailer has now been released.

Here’s the synopsis of this adaptation of Mohsin Amid’s novel: ‘We begin in 2011 in Lahore. At an outdoor café a Pakistani man named Changez (Riz Ahmed) tells Bobby (Liev Schreiber), an American journalist, about his experiences in the United States. Roll back ten years, and we find a younger Changez fresh from Princeton, seeking fortune and glory on Wall Street. The American Dream seems well within his grasp, complete with a smart and gorgeous artist girlfriend, Erica (Kate Hudson).

But when the Twin Towers are attacked, a cultural divide slowly begins to crack open between Changez and Erica. Changez’s dream soon begins to slip into nightmare: profiled, wrongfully arrested, strip-searched and interrogated, he is transformed from a well-educated, upwardly mobile businessman to a scapegoat and perceived enemy. With time, he begins to hear the call of his own homeland. Taking us through the culturally rich and beguiling worlds of New York, Lahore and Istanbul, The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a story about conflicting ideologies where perception and suspicion have the power to determine life or death.’

Star Trek Into Dark Motion Poster – Plus a first look featurette

19th February 2013 By Tim Isaac

Star Trek has excited fans by releasing not just a rather cool motion poster, but also a first look featurette. There’s a fair bit of new footage in the latter, although it’s more about saying how awesome it’s going to be and how they’ve upped the ante than giving us any specifics.

Here’s the previously released synopsis: ‘In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

‘With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.’

The film hits cinemas May 17th, 2013.
