New The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Trailer – Can this fantasy capture the young adult market?

2nd April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Twilight and The Hunger Games have been licenses to print cash, but as the likes of Beautiful Creatures and The Host have shown, the young adult fantasy market is very fickle – there’s no middle ground, it either breaks the bank or flops badly. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will certainly be hoping for the former on it August release. Now we have a new trailer to see if it looks like it’ll be worth a look.

Here’s the synopsis for Cassandra Clare’s novel: ‘In the series’ first book, the #1 New York Times bestseller “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.’

Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Kevin Zegers and more star, with Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) directing. You can also see a couple of new character posters above and below.

2 Guns Trailer – Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg arm themselves

1st April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Mark Wahlberg reteams with Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur, and adds Denzel Washington into the mix for 2 Gun, which hits cinemas this summer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award® winner Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lead an all-star cast in “2 Guns,” an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent.

‘For the past 12 months, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down.

‘When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Trench and Stigman are suddenly disavowed by their superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way.’

Will it be the new The Departed? We’ll have to wait and see.

Before Midnight Trailer – Catching up with Ethan Hawke & Julie Delpy’s Jesse and Celine

29th March 2013 By Tim Isaac

It’ll be interesting to see how far into the future director Richard Linklater and star Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy can keep this going into the future, but the third instalment in what’s becoming an every-nine-years event, is coming with the return of Jesse (Hawke) and Celine (Delpy) in Before Midnight.

Following 1995’s Before Sunrise and 2004’s Before Sunset, the movie was shot secretly in Greece last summer, and will be heading to cinemas this summer.

Once again it follows Jesse and Celine over part of a day as they reignite their relationship.

New Red Band Pain And Gain Trailer Hits – Something a little different from Michael Bay?

27th March 2013 By Tim Isaac

Michael Bay promised Pain & Gain would be something a little different from what we normally expect from him. However as this trailer shows, it’s still somewhat familiar, with bright, saturated colours and a love of slow-mo, as well as showing off women in skimpy outfits.

Indeed it rather harks back to Bad Boys, although without as many explosions (as the trailer shows, there are indeed things exploding, but seeing as most Bay movies are a two hour fireworks display, this is comparatively restrained).

The action comedy stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie, telling the true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. It hits US cinemas on April 26th, and the UK on May 3rd.
