Iron Man 3 Clip – Tony Stark challenges The Mandarin

8th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

It’s only a few weeks until Iron Man 3 hits cinemas (April 25th in the UK and May 3rd in the US), and now Yahoo! has debuted a new clip from the movie.

It features Tony Stark getting a bit angry about The Mandarin’s reign of terror, and issuing a challenge. And if you’ve seen the trailer, you’ll know what the ultimatum leads to.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?’

Carrie Trailer – Chloe Moretz takes on the iconic Stephen King character

5th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Although there are still some people who don’t think Hollywood should have remade Carrie, feeling Brian De Palma’s 1976 film was already the definitive statement on Stephen King’s debut novel. However this trailer suggests the do-over could well be worth a look.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Julianne Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Chloe Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.’

The film will hit cinemas in October.

Grown Ups 2 Trailer – Taylor Lautner goes for laughs alongside Sandler, Rock and co.

4th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Is Taylor Lautner funny? Well, it seems like he might be, as he doesn’t do too badly in the trailer for Grown Ups 2.

The movie sees the cast from Grown Ups returns – Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, for more summertime laughs. Lenny (Adam Sandler) has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends grew up. This time around, the grown ups are the ones learning lessons from their kids on a day notoriously full of surprises: the last day of school.

Lautner, Milo Ventimiglia and various others join the franchise, which is due to hit cinemas in July.

Only God Forgives Red Band Trailer – Ryan Gosling reunites with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn

4th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Ryan Gosling and Drive director Nicolas Wining Refn have reunited for the upcoming Only God Forgives, which looks like it’s going to be as tense as their previous effort – although there’s less evidence Drive’s gore in this new red band trailer.

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

It should be in cinemas this summer, with Gosling looking all bashed up.

The Purge Trailer – Ethan Hawke protects himself in a speculative thriller

4th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

The premise for The Purge sounds a bit daft, but the result could be quite interesting, with Ethan Hawke as a father who has to protect his family from all manner of threats over a 12-hour period. The reason for that is that in a near-future America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity – including murder – becomes legal.

The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It’s one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When an intruder breaks into James Sandin’s (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.

It’s a film that seems to want to make a political point, although we’ll have to wait and see how right or left wing it’s going to lean.

New The Great Gatsby Trailer – Stylish new promo with Leonardo DiCaprio & Tobey Maguire

4th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

When it was announced The Great Gatsby was getting delayed from a Christmas to a summer release, many wondered if the film would flounder in a season normally devoted to superheroes and action movies, but if this trailer is anything to go by, Baz Luhrnmann’s movie certainly has the feel of an effects driven, fantastical flick.

And despite F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel being one of the defining works of the jazz age, it also appears the movie will be full of anachronistic music – which we could easily have guessed from the fact Jay-Z was hired to help oversee the soundtrack. The trailer alone has music from Beyoncé, André 3000, Lana Del Rey, and Florence + The Machine.

The film is certainly going to be an interesting one to look out for. The Great Gatsby follows Tobey Maguire’s Nick Carraway, who gets caught up in the high society of Long Island in the 1930s, where he meets the rich, enigmatic Jay Gatsby (Leonardo Dicaprio), and uncovers the desires and machinations of those around him. It’s a great story that’s still waiting for a definitive film version, which hopefully Luhrmann can provide. Elizabeth Debicki, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher also star.

The film reaches US cinemas of May 10th and the UK on May 17th, 2013.
