Summer In February Trailer – Dan Stevens, Dominic Cooper & Emily Browning go bohemian

11th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Directed by Christopher Menaul with a screenplay written by Jonathan Smith based on his 1995 novel, Summer In February stars Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Dominic Cooper (The Devil’s Double), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) and winner of the Evening Standard and the Critics’ Choice Theatre Awards for Best Actress for her performance in the Young Vic’s A Doll’s House; Harriet Morahan.

The film is the intimate true story of young, vibrant souls navigating their way through love, passion and friendship in the picturesque landscape of early twentieth century England. Summer In February focuses on the wild and bohemian Lamorna Group, dominated by the charismatic AJ Munnings (Dominic Cooper). The incendiary anti-Modernist Munnings, now regarded as one of Britain’s most sought-after artists, is at the heart of a complex love triangle involving the young, aspiring painter Florence Carter-Wood (Emily Browning) and Gilbert Evans (Dan Stevens), the land agent in charge of the Lamorna estate. Renowned painter Laura Knight is played by Hattie Morahan.

The story is played out against the timeless beauty of the Cornish coast, in the far West of England, beyond the reach of London and its stifling conventions. It hits UK cinemas on June 14th.

Filth Red Band Trailer – James McAvoy gets very rude in the Irvine Welsh adaptation

11th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

James McAvoy normally comes across as such a nice young man, but he’s get very rude in Filth, engaging in plenty of sex, violence and turning swearing into an art form. Now the first – very NSFW – trailer for the Irvine Welsh adaptation has arrived.

Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The movie’s due out this September.

Elysium Trailer – Major sci-fi class warfare between Matt Damon and Jodie Foster

10th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

As we were promised, the trailer for Elysium has arrived, which is presumably so that it can get some interest just as Oblivion is released, which at least superficially seems to be rather similarly themed. It certainly look pretty cool, with great visual and an interesting idea behind it.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.’

Neill Blomkamp’s film hits US cinemas on August 9th and will arrive in the UK in September.

First Man Of Steel TV Spot – Henry Cavill is gonna change the world

9th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Warner/DC has a lot riding on Man Of Steel, so they’re starting the hype early, with the first TV spot now available, more than two months before the June 14th release. It mainly features footage we’ve seen before, although the voiceover is new and there are a few fresh images.

It also continues the portentous tone the previous marketing has had, which could be a dangerous game, as if the film is good it’ll help make it more of an event, but if it isn’t, it’ll just highlight how OTT the attitude is.

The film sees Henry Cavill don the Superman cape, with Amy Adams, Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner co-starring. Zack Snyder directs.

Rush Trailer – Chris Hemworth, Daniel Bruhl & Ron Howard take on F1

8th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Director Ron Howard is heading back to 1970s Formula 1 racing for Rush, and now the first trailer for the high-octane biopic has arrived, giving us a look at Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Niki Lauda.

Hunt was a dashing playboy with a wild social life, whose exploits off the track filled more column inches than what he did while racing. Lauda meanwhile was a quieter figure, but still an amazing and driven racer. Their rivalry became legend both on and off the Grand Prix circuit.

We’ll have to wait a while to see the film though, which also stars Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer and Alexandra Maria Lara, as it’s not due for release until September 2013.
