Walking With Dinosaurs: The 3D Movie Trailer – The giant beasties are coming this Christmas

2nd May 2013 By Tim Isaac

Back in 1999 TV audiences were amazed by the CG dinos of Walking With Dinosaurs, which led sequels, spin-offs and even a live arena tour with enormous animatronic dinos. Now it’s coming to cinemas, with Walking With Dinosaurs: The 3D Movie due in cinemas this Christmas.

The first trailer for the film has now arrived, which looks pretty cool and should get youngsters excited for the chance to see dinosaurs in 3D. And while the original Walking With Dinosaurs took a documentary tack, the film seems like it’s adding in a lot more fictional heartstring pull.

It’s currently due out December 20th.

Violet & Daisy Trailer – Saoirse Ronan & Alexis Bleidel are teen assassins

1st May 2013 By Tim Isaac

Violet & Daisy premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to mixed reviews, but it certainly looks like it could be interesting. Now the trailer has arrived, so we can get a better feel for this semi-arthouse teen killer tale.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Violet (Alexis Bledel) and Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) are a pair of gum-cracking teenage assassins who casually snuff out crime figures in New York City, distracted only by the fact that a concert by their favorite pop idol Barbie Sunday has suddenly been canceled. Determined to raise cash for some Barbie Sunday dresses, the duo takes on a new hit job targeting a mysterious loner (James Gandolfini) who leads them into an unexpected odyssey of self-examination and catapults the junior enforcers into a world beyond Barbie Sunday and bullets for pay. From Academy Award-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher (PRECIOUS) comes a mesmerizing hybrid of New York City crime fable and existential coming-of-age drama. In VIOLET & DAISY teenage kicks match wits with adult-world turmoil, placing three wounded souls into a line of fire none expected — themselves.’

No UK release date is currently set, but it’ll be out in the US on June 7th.

Pacific Rim Wonder Con Trailer – Guillermo Del Toro’s film is looking truly epic

30th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Warner Bros and Guillermo Del Toro cut together a new Pacific Rim trailer for Wonder Con, and the original plan was to only show it there. But after a great response, they’ve decided we should all get a look. That would seem a good idea, as this takes the movie to a whole different level to what we’ve seen before – it’s always looked huge, but this is massive!

There’s also plenty of info, such as a brief history of the fact Kaiju (monsters) are being sent through a portal in the Pacific and deliberately aimed at massive population centres. This results in the Jaeger programme, where massive robots are piloted by two humans to battle the creatures. However while it was initially a success, things have gone wrong.

It’s an impressive trailer, which should massive up the excitement for the film. It’s due July 12th in both the US and UK.

Prince Avalanche Trailer – Paul Rudd & Emile Hirsch become road workers

27th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Prince Avalanche is the English-language adaptation the Icelandic comedy Either Way. It premiered at Sundance and recently screened at Tribeca, and now we get our first look with a trailer, featuring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An odd couple of sorts, meditative and stern Alvin (Rudd) and his girlfriend’s brother, Lance (Hirsch), dopey and insecure, leave the city behind to spend the summer in solitude repainting traffic lines down the centre of a country highway ravaged by wildfire. As they sink into their job in the remarkable landscape, they learn more than they want to about each other and their own limitations. An unlikely friendship develops through humour and nasty exchanges, leading to surprising affection.’

David Gordon Green directs, getting back to his indie roots after the likes of Pineapple Express, Your Highness and The Sitter. It’ll be released in the US in August, but no UK date has been set yet.

New Red 2 Trailer – Plus Mary-Louise Parker gets a character poster

27th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

Red was a surprise success in 2010, attracting an older audience to an action film than would normally go to the multitude of young guy oriented flicks we get each year. Now a sequel is on its way and a new trailer is here, as well as a character poster featuring Mary-Louise Parker.

The likes of Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich are back, this time joined by the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins and David Thewlis.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process.’

New Monsters University Trailer – Sulley and Mike enroll in college

25th April 2013 By Tim Isaac

We’ve had a couple of teasers and trailers for Monsters University, but they’ve been rather light on plot. That’s been remedied with a brand new promo, which gives us a great feel for the film, with Mike and Sulley at university, but Mike having difficulty fitting in and convincing anybody that he should be a scarer.

On this evidence it looks like it’s going to be another winner from Pixar.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

‘Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame–inductee and award winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opens in U.K. cinemas on July 12, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select cinemas.’
