August: Osage County Trailer – Meryl Streep launches her next Oscar campaign

13th May 2013 By Tim Isaac

A very strange thing happened this year – Meryl Streep wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. However on the evidence of this trailer, she’s going for yet another nom with August: Osage County.

Based on Terry Letts’ Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play, the star-packed film also stars Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Chris Cooper, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney and Sam Shepard.

John Wells directs the film, which is about the dysfunctional Weston family and the daughters who have gone their separate ways, until a crisis brings them back to their Midwestern home. The film should be out later this year.

Fruitvale Station Trailer – Michael B. Jordan takes on the tragic true-life tale

13th May 2013 By Tim Isaac

This year’s Sundance Grand Jury prize winner was Fruitvale Station (it played at the festival just as Fruitvale). Now we get a look at the movie with a trailer for the film.

The film tells the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old San Francisco Bay resident who crosses paths with friends, enemies, family and strangers on the last day of 2008. By the end of the day, Oscar made national news when cell phone cameras carried by many witnesses documented an extremely over the top display of police force.

The film opens in the US on July 12th. No UK date is currently set.

Gravity Teaser Trailer – First look at Bullock & Clooney in Alfonso Cuaron’s film

10th May 2013 By Tim Isaac

Gravity is definitely one of the most intriguing movies of the year, with much of the movie promising to be Sandra Bullock and George trapped alone in space after a disaster cripples the space station they’re working on. Now the first trailer has arrived for Alfonso Cuaron’s movie has arrived, and it’s looking pretty exciting, even if it concentrates on one big moment in the film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award® winners Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side,” “The Proposal”) and George Clooney (“Up in the Air,” “Syriana”) star in “Gravity,” a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space.  The film was directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuarón (“Children of Men”).

‘Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring.  But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes.  The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue.  As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left.  But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

It’ll be out later this year.

Captain Phillips Trailer – Drama on the sea with Tom Hanks & Paul Greengrass

9th May 2013 By Tim Isaac

Ever since 2010’s Green Zone, director Paul Greengrass has been signing onto and dropping out of a seemingly endless succession of projects. However now he’s actually made a movie, teaming up with Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived.

The project is based on the true story of Maresk Alabama captain Richard Phillips (Hanks), who sacrificed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates, so he could save the lives of his crew. He spent three days in captivity before being rescued by a Navy SEAL team in 2009.

It’s currently due out in the US in October.

Inside Llewyn Davis Red-Band Trailer – Plus a new poster for the Coen Brothers’ film

9th May 2013 By Tim Isaac

A brand new red band trailer for the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis has debuted, along with the poster above.

Oscar Isaac stars as the title character, a folk singer making his way through the Greenwich Village music scene in the 1960s. The movie is loosely based on the life of folk singer Dave Van Ronk. Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Gerrett Hedlund, and John Goodman also star.

It certainly looks stylish, with plenty of the Coens’ trademark sharp dialogue, although it’s definitely one of their more idiosyncratic efforts. The film will debut at Cannes and then get an Oscar-bait end of year cinema release in the US, with a January 2014 opening set for the UK.
