The Family Trailer – Robert De Niro teams with Luc Besson and goes gangster again

5th June 2013 By Tim Isaac

If you look through Robert De Niro’s CV, he hasn’t actually made all that many gangster films, but the ones he’s done have become so iconic that he’s perennially associated with the subgenre. Now he’s back in gangster territory for Luc Besson’s The Family, and we’ve got the first trailer and poster.

In the film, ‘A mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of Agent Stansfield to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni, his wife Maggie and their children Belle and Warren can’t help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the “family” way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down.’

The film is due out in the autumn.

New The To-Do List Red-Band Trailer – Aubrey Plaza wants some sexual experience

5th June 2013 By Tim Isaac

It seems The To Do List is following in the footsteps of Bridesmaids and wants to prove it’s not just the guys who can get gross-out, although this time things are more American Pie and wedding comedy.

Set in 1993, valedictorian Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza) wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to do list of all the “activities” she missed out on in high school. Quickly realizing that she’s way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends, older sister and burnt-out boss for their help and advice. If the group is going to complete the list by September they’ll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.

Maggie Carey’s film is due out July 26th in the US, with an October UK release currently planned.

Blackfish Trailer – Inside the world of theme park killer whales

4th June 2013 By Tim Isaac

There’s been an increasing feeling among some that it’s not right to keep killer whales in captivity. After all, they can grow 25ft long, live in comparatively small pools and are very smart. That’s what the documentary Blackfish looks at, suggesting that perhaps the way these animals are kept literally causes a sort of psychosis.

It concentrates on the story of Tilikum, who was caught in the wild in 1983, and since then has been involved in the death of three people, most famously SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau, who was killed in front on spectators when the animal dragged her into the pool.

It certainly doesn’t look like Blackfish is going to pull any punches in savaging what it sees as a cruel industry.

Closed Circuit Trailer – Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall go into thriller mode

3rd June 2013 By Tim Isaac

Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall are being watched! At least they are in Closed Circuit, who find their lives getting very difficult after they join the team of defence lawyers for an international terrorist’s trial.

To add a bit of complication, Bana and Hall used to be a couple, which is a fact that could be used by the powerful players who appear to want to use them as pawns in the intrigue.

Julia Stiles, Jim Broadbent, Ciaran Hinds, Roz Ahmed, Kenneth Cranham and Game Of Thrones’ Isaac Hempstead Wright also star. It hits the US on August 28th and comes to the UK on November 1st.

Man Of Steel Behind The Scenes Featurette – A 13-minute look at the movie

3rd June 2013 By Tim Isaac

It’s felt like a very long wait for Man Of Steel, but the new take on the Superman legend is set to arrive in just a couple of weeks time on June 14th. If you’re interested in the movie, it’s well worth taking a look at this new 13-minute featurette, with plenty of interviews, footage from the film and looks behind-the-scenes.

Admittedly it does feel like it’s giving us the big sell, but it’s still interesting.

Here’s the synopsis: A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth.  As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do.  But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

Machete Kills Teaser – Danny Trejo is back, joined by Mel Gibson and more

31st May 2013 By Tim Isaac

It feels like we’ve been waiting ages for Machete Kills, but now the first trailer has arrived, and while it’s in Spanish, it still gives a good feel for the movie, which is definitely sticking to its grindhouse root.

It’s also keen to show off the cast, which includes Danny Trejo, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Demián Bichir, Michelle Rodriguez, Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, William Sadler, and Antonio Banderas.

In the movie, Machete is called on by the President to stop a Billionaire (Gibson) who’s planning to launch a missile into space.
