Turbo is certainly based on a slightly odd idea – a snail competes in the Indy 500 car race – but DreamWorks Animation’s movie does look like it might be fun.
The movie follows Theo, a snail who dreams of being a racer. A strange accident grants him his wish, allowing him to go at super-speeds. He then teams up with a group of fellow speed-obsessed snails and a taco truck owner to try to compete in the Indy 500.
The film has a great voice cast, including Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Giamatti, Ken Jeong (as a cantankerous woman), Michael Pena, Luis Guzman, Richard Jenkins, Bill Hader, Michelle Rodriguez, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Lion and Maya Rudolph.
It’s out in the US on July 17th and will reach the UK in October.
It certainly feels like Brian De Palma, director of The Untouchables and Scarface, has never quite left the 1980s behind, as you certainly get a feel of that decade in the latest trailer for Passion, which hits VOD and cinemas in the US in August (no UK date is currently set).
There’s a lot of interest in Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, which he’s said will be full of sex and be released in both hardcore and softcore versions. While that in itself might not be that surprising, the fact he’s drawn together a fairly well known cast to help him is unusual (although it has been suggested that CG may be used so the bodies you see having sex may not really be attached to the well known heads).
I think it’s safe to say that things aren’t going well for Hugh Jackman’s character in Prisoners, as the film looks like it’s going to be pretty intense.
