New Turbo Trailer – Fast & Furious meets, err, snails

2nd July 2013 By Tim Isaac

Turbo is certainly based on a slightly odd idea – a snail competes in the Indy 500 car race – but DreamWorks Animation’s movie does look like it might be fun.

The movie follows Theo, a snail who dreams of being a racer. A strange accident grants him his wish, allowing him to go at super-speeds. He then teams up with a group of fellow speed-obsessed snails and a taco truck owner to try to compete in the Indy 500.

The film has a great voice cast, including Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Giamatti, Ken Jeong (as a cantankerous woman), Michael Pena, Luis Guzman, Richard Jenkins, Bill Hader, Michelle Rodriguez, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Lion and Maya Rudolph.

It’s out in the US on July 17th and will reach the UK in October.

New Passion Trailer – Brian De Palma’s tale of power and female desire

2nd July 2013 By Tim Isaac

It certainly feels like Brian De Palma, director of The Untouchables and Scarface, has never quite left the 1980s behind, as you certainly get a feel of that decade in the latest trailer for Passion, which hits VOD and cinemas in the US in August (no UK date is currently set).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Brian De Palma returns to the sleek, sly, seductive territory of Dressed To Kill with an erotic corporate thriller fueled by sex, ambition, image, envy and the dark, murderous side of PASSION. The film stars Rachel McAdams (Midnight In Paris, Sherlock Holmes, Mean Girls) and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) as two rising female executives in a multinational corporation whose fierce competition to rise up the ranks is about to turn literally cut-throat.’

To be honest, we’re not thinking it’s going to be great.

Ride Along Teaser Trailer – Ice Cube doesn’t want Kevin Hart hanging around

2nd July 2013 By Tim Isaac

Ice Cube doesn’t seem to like Kevin Hart very much in Ride Along, and to be honest, on the evidence of this trailer, I can’t say I blame him – he’s pretty annoying.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Kevin Hart and Ice Cube lead the lineup in Ride Along, the new film from the director and the producer of the blockbuster comedy Think Like a Man. When a fast-talking guy joins his girlfriend’s brother—a hot-tempered cop—to patrol the streets of Atlanta, he gets entangled in the officer’s latest case.

‘Now, in order to prove that he deserves his future bride, he must survive the most insane 24 hours of his life.
For the past two years, high-school security guard Ben (Hart) has been trying to show decorated APD detective James (Cube) that he’s more than just a video-game junkie who’s unworthy of James’ sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter). When Ben finally gets accepted into the academy, he thinks he’s earned the seasoned policeman’s respect and asks for his blessing to marry Angela.

‘Knowing that a ride along will demonstrate if Ben has what it takes to take care of his sister, James invites him on a shift designed to scare the hell out of the trainee. But when the wild night leads them to the most notorious criminal in the city, James will find that his new partner’s rapid-fire mouth is just as dangerous as the bullets speeding at it.’

It’ll be out at the beginning of next year.

First Clip From Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac – Take a look at part of Chapter 1 of the unusual movie

1st July 2013 By Tim Isaac

There’s a lot of interest in Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, which he’s said will be full of sex and be released in both hardcore and softcore versions. While that in itself might not be that surprising, the fact he’s drawn together a fairly well known cast to help him is unusual (although it has been suggested that CG may be used so the bodies you see having sex may not really be attached to the well known heads).

The likes of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe, Uma Thurman, Connie Neilsen and Stacy Martin are set to star.

Now the first clip from the film has been released, and you won’t be surprised to hear there’s no hardcore shagging in it.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film is a wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.’

No release date is currently set, but expect it later this year.

New Prisoners Trailer – Hugh Jackman plays a really anguished father

28th June 2013 By Tim Isaac

I think it’s safe to say that things aren’t going well for Hugh Jackman’s character in Prisoners, as the film looks like it’s going to be pretty intense.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keller Dover (Jackman) is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His 6-year-old daughter and her young friend are missing, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?’

Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano also star. The film is out this autumn.

New The Conjuring Trailer – Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga get creepy

28th June 2013 By Tim Isaac

Saw and Insidious director James Wan is keeping things in creepy gear for The Conjuring, which teams him with a great cast including Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor and Joey King. Now a new trailer and poster have arrived, to get us excited for the August 2nd release.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warrenwere called upon to help a family terrorised by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

It certainly look pretty eerie.
