Channing Tatum Up For Kingsman: The Golden Circle

14th April 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

channing-tatumThe casting news on Kingsman: The Golden Circle is coming thick and fast, with the latest being that Channing Tatum has signed on for the movie. He joins the returning Taron Egerton and Mark Strong, as well as newcomers Julianne Moore as the villain, Halle Berry as the CIA Chief and Pedro Pascal.

Just yesterday we reported that Elton John was in talks for the film, and there are strong hints that Colin Firth will be returning too.

There’s no news on exactly who Tatum will play, although the poster in the tweet which Channing used to announce the news (which you can see below) has many speculating that he will be part of the American version of Kingsman. While there are few plot details available, it is known that it will involve the British agents coming up against or working alongside the CIA. And if that’s who Tatum is playing, it would appear he’ll have a Southern drawl.

Shooting kicks off soon with Matthew Vaughn once more directing. It’ll be in cinemas next year. [Read more…]

21 Jump Street/Men in Black Crossover Gets Director James Bobin

6th March 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-bobinWhen Channing Tatum came up with the idea for a crossover between 21 Jump Street and Men In Black, it seemed like the sort of crazy thing where a studio would do some work on it, just to keep the star happy. However, it appears Sony is taking it very seriously, as Variety reports that Muppets and Flight On The Conchords director James Bobin is in talks to helm the movie.

While Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are both expected to be involved, don’t expect to see Tommy Lee Jones or Will Smith, as the makers are apparently looking for ‘younger, fresher faces’ to put on the black suits and help keep the fact aliens are living amongst us a secret. There’s no other info than that, and we’ll have to wait and see how Schmidt and Jenko get caught up in alien shenanigans, and whether the movie will see them going undercover to deal with some sort of sci-fi nasty.

Expect to hear more info soo though, as Sony is hoping to shoot the movie this summer. It appears that once they’ve tied down Bobin, they’ll be looking for actors to play the new Men (and possibly Women) in Black. Who knows, perhaps after the lacklustre Men In Black 3, this could be a good way to revive the franchise.

Channing Tatum & Joseph Gordon-Levitt Are Teaming Up For A Musical Comedy

6th February 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

channing-tatumChanning Tatum is currently showing off his singing skills with a big number in the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!. Well, it seems he doesn’t want to leave it there, as THR reports that he’s teaming with Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a new musical comedy, which Universal has signed on to make.

The duo have worked together several times before, appearing alongside each other in Havoc, Stop-Loss, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, with Tatum also showing up in Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, Don Jon. There’s not much info on what the film will be about, but it’s apparently planned as an R-rated movie, based on an idea by Gordon-Levitt and his longtime friend and colleague Michael Bacall, who will write the script.

It’s still pretty early days though, so don’t expect to see this for a while yet – indeed musicals tend to have an incredibly long development period due to the need to work on and refine the tunes. However it’ll certainly be good if it goes ahead and we can see Tatum and Gordon-Levitt showing off their wond and dance men skills in a full-length musical.

Is Steven Soderbergh Coming Out Of Retirement To Direct A Channing Tatum Movie?

4th February 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steven-soderberghThree years ago, Ocean’s 11 and Traffic helmer Steven Soderbergh announced he was retiring as a movie director, with his last theatrical movie being Side Effects, followed by the TV film, Behind The Candelabra. However, it appears he may have been lured out of his semi-retirement, with Variety reporting that he’s attached to helm a movie called Lucky Logan, which Channing Tatum is attached to star in.

To be honest it’s not particularly shocking news, as not only did Soderbergh keep delaying his initial retirement by making more movies, but he’s still been heavily involved in the industry as a producer and cinematographer, as well as direcing numerous episodes of the TV series The Knick. The new film would reunite Steven with his Magic Mike star (indeed Soderbergh was also a Producer and the Director Of Photography for the sequel, even though he didn’t direct).

There’s no info on the plot of Lucky Logan, with Variety just saying that its “a mystery, but sources say Soderbergh recently got his hands on the script and quickly fell in love with the premise”. However, before we cheer Soderbergh’s return to feature film directing, the director himself has suggested that’s not what happening, heading to Twitter to say, ‘That Variety story is wrong. What a shock.’

That doesn’t mean he isn’t involved in some capacity, or that it’s not other aspects of the story he’s disputing, but it’s a bit early to say he’s definitely going to be in the director’s chair.

New Hail, Caesar! Trailer – Ralph Fiennes wants Alden Ehrenreich to be a better actor in the Coen’s star-studded flick

12th January 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hail-caesar-quadWhile many had expected the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! to be making an Oscar run, it’s been slightly pushed back, but it still looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. If nothing else their look back at the Golden Age of Hollywood has one hell of a cast.

A new trailer has now arrived, which tells us little about the plot, but certainly gives us a feel for quirky tone we can expect.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Four-time Oscar®-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Fargo) write and direct Hail, Caesar!, an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood’s Golden Age.  Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill and Frances McDormand, Hail, Caesar! follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.’

The film will be in UK cinemas on March 4th. [Read more…]

Doug Liman In Talks To Direct Channing Tatum In X-Men Spin-off Gambit

15th November 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

doug-limanThe X-Men spin-off Gambit seemed to be motoring along, but then hit a buffer finding a director, with numerous people turning it down, then Rupert Wyatt signing on, only to leave shortly afterwards. There was even talk of Channing Tatum leaving the title role.

However now the producers will be hoping they’ve sorted the problem, as THR reports that Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Edge Of Tomorrow director Doug Liman is in talks to make the movie.

There’s no news on the specific plot, but Josh Zetumer has written the script, which will concentrate on the mutant who, as Wikipedia says, ‘has the ability to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his desire. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in card-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a staff. Gambit is known to charge playing cards and other objects with kinetic energy, using them as explosive projectiles.’

The problems have meant that the original February 2016 release date definitely won’t happen, and while it’s currently dated for October 2016, don’t be surprised to see that slip into 2017.
