Dane DeHaan & Rooney Mara Will Get Musical In Ziggy – They’re heading back to the Jazz age

13th September 2014 By Tim Isaac

At some point any actor who can hold a tune wants to show that off on-screen – hell, even Clint Eastwood made Paint Your Wagon – and now it’s Dane DeHaan and Rooney Mara’s turn, as they’ve signed on for the musical Ziggy, according to THR.

DeHaan will play the title character, ‘a hunchback escape artist who arrives in New York during the mass-culture boom of the late 1920s and falls in love with the fiancee (Mara) of a powerful media mogul.’

Diesel Schwarze, who got his start working with Baz Luhrmann, will write and direct, and will also help develop the music alongside DeHaan, Mara and Grammy-nominated songwriter Alex Da Kid. It sounds like it’ll be rather Luhrmann-esque, as THR’s report suggests the music will be contemporary despite the Jazz Age setting of the film.

Producer Lynette Powell comments, “Ziggy is one of the most unique scripts I’ve ever read. Diesel has written an incredibly beautiful and ambitious story, and his background working under Baz Luhrmann combined with his prolific commercial work, lends itself to bringing this story to life in a visually inspired and exciting way. We are so fortunate to have Dane and Rooney onboard to develop the music with us and create something truly original, contemporary and special.”
