William Monahan’s goning to be a busy boy, as we just reported that The Departed screenwriter is reteaming with Martin Scorsese for a remake of the 1974 The Gambler, and now THR says he’s also been hired to work on Sin City 2 – and that’s added to work he’s doing on the upcoming Tom Cruise sci-fi flick, Oblivion.
It appears that after years of promising, Robert Rodriguez is finally gearing up for a sequel to Sin City. It’s about time too, as initially we were supposed to get a second and third film in 2006 and 2007. The writer of the original comics, Frank Miller, has recently finished a draft of the Sin City 2 screenplay, which Oscar-winner Monahan will now work on.
Rodriguez promised at Comic Con that shooting would begin as soon as a script was locked, which could be as early as the end of the year. That said, it isn’t known which actors from the first film will return, or which of the Sin City stories are being used for this follow-up (or indeed if Miller has come up with new tales). However Rodriguez has said that because of the way the movies are shot against green-screen, it should make it easier for actors to return, even if they have a busy schedule.
