With Cowboys Vs. Aliens expected to be one of this summer’s big hits, it looks like we can expect plenty more Something Vs. Something movies. One of the first to be put into pre-production is Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens, with director Barry Sonnenfeld teaming up with comic book writer/screenwriter Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman) to develop both a graphic novel and movie .
Sonnenfeld and Morrison are setting up the graphic novel at Liquid Comics and producer Arnold Rifkin will oversee the movie through his Cheyenne Enterprises label. The story will centre on a secret world battle where aliens attack Earth when dinosaurs roamed, although the pre-historic creatures have much more intelligence than previously thought. It doesn’t seem humans will feature in the story, although it feasible they’ll find some way to bring them in, which would certainly help to get the movie made (it may be seen as too big of a risk otherwise, without a human element to tie things together)
Both Barry Sonnenfeld and Grant Morrison will write the graphic novel and screenplay, while Sonnenfeld will direct the movie. The helmer, who’s made the likes of Men In Black and The Addams Family, says “Growing up, my fascination was all things dinosaur, and as an adult, Ive had some success making films about aliens, so this is a dream come true.”
The graphic novel will be published later this year, although a production schedule for the movie isn’t known.
