Simon Pegg Up For Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

20th March 2016 By Tim Isaac

simon-peggThe cast of Spielberg’s Ready Player One continues to grow, with THR reporting that Simon Pegg has signed up for the movie. He joins Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and Tye Sheridan, who’s set to be the lead character of Wade Watts.

The movie will be based on Ernie Cline’s novel. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.’

Pegg is in talks to play Ogden Morrow, the co-creator of OASIS. The film should be in cinemas December 15th, 2017, with shooting expected to start in the next few months.

Tye Sheridan Joins Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

28th February 2016 By Tim Isaac

tye-sheridanSteven Spielberg is going back into proper blockbuster territory with Ready Player One, which has just found its lead in actor Tye Sheridan (who’s also the new Scott Summers/Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse), according to TheWrap. He joins the previously cast Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn.

The movie will be based on Ernie Cline’s novel. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. Sheridan will be the man playing Wade. The film should be in cinemas December 15th, 2017.

Ben Mendelsohn Wanted For Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

7th January 2016 By Tim Isaac

Ben-MendelsohnBack in September Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ready Player One got its first star when Olivia Cooke signed up for the movie. Now she may be getting some company, as Variety reports Ben Mendelsohn is in early talks for the film. Assuming he ends up joining the movie, he’ll be the villain.

Mendelsohn is best known for Animal Kingdom, The Dark Knight Rises, Exodus: Gods & Kings, but is likely to become a better known name by the end of the year, thanks to his major role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is out in December.

The main thing the movie is currently lacking is someone to play Wade, but that’s likely to change soon, as Spielberg is currently testing a range of young actors to play the role. The film should be in cinemas December 15th, 2017.
