The Book Of Henry Trailer – Colin Trevorrow moves from dinosaurs to drama/thriller territory

31st March 2017 By Tim Isaac

Colin Trevorrow had a monster hit with Jurassic World, but rather than staying in the world of dinosaurs or immediately making another mega-budget movie, he decided to helm The Book Of Henry. Not the trailer has arrived, which starts off suggesting this will be a quirky family drama, before veering into surprisingly dark thriller territory.

The Henry of the title is an 11-year-old boy, living with his mother (Naomi Watts) and brother. He realises the girl living next door, Christina, may be in danger from her stepfather, and so starts writing a book about how he’s going to rescue her. Eventually his mother gets involved, but they know it will be difficult to do anything, as Christina’s stepdad is the police commissioner.

Jacob Tremblay, Sarah Silverman and Lee Pace also star. Take a look at the trailer below. The Book of Henry will be in cinemas this summer. [Read more…]

Hamlet Getting A Female-centric Reimagining With Daisy Ridley & Naomi Watts

4th May 2016 By Tim Isaac

daisy-ridleyHamlet is undoubtedly one of the greatest plays ever written, but as many have noticed, the female characters are somewhat problematic from a modern perspective. That’s now getting addressed on film with a movie adaptation of Lisa Klein’s young adult novel, Ophelia.

The cast is starting to come together, with Daisy Ridley and Naomi Watts in final talks for the movie, which re-imagines the story of Hamlet and takes a look at it through the female character’s eyes. The two main women are Ophelia, a young woman who is the daughter of new King Claudius’s top advisor. She starts to fall for Hamlet, who is consumed with indecision over whether to kill Claudius, who he believes murdered his father.

There’s also Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, who marries Claudius shortly after the death of her husband, resulting in scorn from her son. It eventually all goes very badly, ending in massive tragedy for pretty much everyone (most of whom are dead).

However, Klein’s novel slightly re-imagines things, bringing in new story elements, secret romances and a change to the ending to make it slightly less full of death.
