Our Score

First of all a spoiler warning to whoever is reading this, as I will divulge some of the plot and scenes of this film. As a self-imposed rule I don’t like to give away any spoilers, but I find it hard to hold back when reviewing a film that I felt wasn’t great, was predictable and generic – despite its interesting premise. You have been warned but if you have seen the spoilerific trailer then nothing in this review will surprise or shock you.

A few years ago after Taken 3 (2014) pretty much bombed at the box office, I read an article in which star Liam Neeson said he would no longer be making action films in which he is the lead, facing off against wave after wave of disposable villains. This was in part due to Neeson’s age and that he felt he was being typecast. [Read more…]

Silence Trailer – Plus a poster for Martin Scorsese’s drama starring Andrew Garfield & Liam Neeson

23rd November 2016 By Tim Isaac

silence-poster-slideMartin Scorsese has been attached to Silence for years. However he kept putting it back, to the point where it briefly ended up in court as some of the backers felt he was essentially preventing it from actually getting made by never getting round to making it, but keeping himself attached to helm.

That was sorted out and Scorsese has now filmed the movie, based on Shusaku Endo’s novel. Set in the 17th Century, the story follows Father Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield), a Portuguese Jesuit priest who travels to Japan to confront his mentor, after rumours surface that he has abandoned the church. Ken Watanabe will portray Father Rodrigues’ Japanese interpreter, while Liam Neeson, Issei Ogata and Adam Driver also star.

The movie is getting an Oscar-qualifying run in the US in December, before expanding in January. It’ll be out in the UK early next year. [Read more…]

A Monster Calls Teaser Trailer – Liam Neeson becomes a talking tree monster

19th November 2015 By Tim Isaac

a-monster-calls-pic1Liam Neeson is doing something a little different from the Taken and Non-Stop action-fests he’s been best known for in the last few years, as he’s becoming a tree creature with A Monster Calls. J.A. Bayona directs the movie, based on the novel by Patrick Ness.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A visually spectacular drama from acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Impossible”), based on the award-winning children’s fantasy novel. 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.’

We’ve got a long time to wait for this strange but intriguing looking movie, as it’s not due out until autumn 2016, but you can get your first taste with the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]
