Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine aren’t the first people you’d think of when looking for people who could sing, but it seems they both want to show off their skills, as THR reports they’re in talks for Rob Marshall’s planned movie version of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Into The Woods.
Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep are already on board, so if Gyllenhaal and Pine sign up, it’s gonna be a pretty starry adaptation.
Into The Woods follows a baker and his wife who try to break a curse placed upon them, which prevents them from having children, by confronting the witch (Streep) who caused their trouble in the first place. Along the way, they encounter fairy tale characters such as Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and many more (Depp will be the big bad wolf).
Pine and Gyllenhaal are up to play the films pompous princes, who get a big musical number of their own. The current plan is to shoot Into The Woods this autumn.
Pine’s not only planning to go musical, as TheWrap reports he’s is talks to reunite with Smokin’ Aces director Joe Carnaham on Stretch. Patrick Wilson is already onboard as a limo driver who has the unfortunate responsibility of driving around a mysterious billionaire “who drags him to hell and back.” Pine’s role isn’t mentioned, but there’s a good chance he’ll be the billionaire.
