Recently it was announced that Kevin Costner was due to star in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, but then a week or so ago he left the movie due to scheduling problems. Now it appears Tarantino has found the man he wants to replace Costner, and it’s probably a better choice than Kevin anyway.
TheWrap reports that Kurt Russell is close to signing on for the movie. He would portray Ace Woody, who runs the plantation owned by the evil Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). The story follows Django (Jamie Foxx), a recently-freed slave who hires a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to track down his kidnapped wife who’s still under the control of Candie. This takes then into a world where the plantation owner pits slaves against each other in sadistic gladiatorial combat.
Laura Cayouette has also joined the Django Unchained cast, playing the widowed sister of Calvin Candie, who also co-owns the plantation. Production is scheduled to start in November.
