With production scheduled to start nest month, the people behind the live action/CG version of The Smurfs are busy lining up the cast. They’ve already got Neil Patrick Harris as the lead human character, while Katy Perry, George Lopez, Alan Cumming and Jonathan Winters will voice little blue guys.
Now it seems they’ve found their villainous Gargamel, the evil sorceror whose Smurf obsession is always putting magical creatures in danger. Hank Azaria will take the role, although from the way EW report it, he’ll only be lending his voice, which suggests Gargamel will be CG rather than live action, which is slightly peculiar.
They also report that Glee star Jayma Mays (who plays guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury on the TV show) will be taking one of the major human roles and will play Neil Patrick Harris’ wife. The duo will be a couple expecting a baby whose life is turned upside-down when they meet the Smurfs, who are now living in New York’s Central Park.
