Now that every piece of intellectual property that anyone has ever heard of is fair game for a movie adaptation, it’s the turn of Minecraft to be lining up for a big screen adaptation. The movie may have now found its star, as Variety reports that Steve Carell is in talks for the film.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney is set to direct the movie, and also penned the latest script, along with Wonder Woman’s Jason Fuchs. It’s not known exactly what the film will be about, as the fact Minecraft is more about building that narrative leaves things wide open.
A previous iteration, which was set to be helmed by Shawn Levy, was said to be a family adventure movie in the vein of The Goonies. However, McElhenney may have completely changed things since then. Warner Bros. must be happy with where it’s heading though, as they’ve already set a release date of May 25th, 2019.
