Corey Stoll, Kyle Chandler & Jason Clarke Joining Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong Biopic

22nd June 2017 By Tim Isaac

Damien Chazelle has the world at his feet following his Best Director Oscar win for La La Land. He’s decided his next project will be a biopic of Neil Armstrong, called First Man. The cast is now fast coming together, as in the last couple of days, it’s been revealed that Corey Stoll, Kyle Chandler and Jason Clarke will join Ryan Gosling in the film.

Gosling is set to play the central role of test pilot turned astronaut Neil Armstrong, who became the first man to walk on the moon. Ant Man’s Corey Stoll will be joining him on the trip as Buzz Aldrin, while Chandler will be Deke Slayton, one of the first Americans in space, who was the Director of Flight Crew Operations during the Apollo 9 mission. Clarke meanwhile will be Ed White, who did te first American space walk, but died in a tragic accident on the launching pad in 1967, during testing for the first Apollo mission.

Based on the book by James R. Hansen, the film will cover the period between 1961 and 1969, showing just how dangerous and difficult it was to get men to the moon. The film is due out October 2018.

Ryan Gosling To Reunite With La La Land Director For Neil Armstrong Biopic

30th December 2016 By Tim Isaac

For a couple of years, Whiplash director Damien Chazelle has been attached to a biopic of Neil Armstrong, called First Man. Now he’s found the man to play the main role, as THR reports that he’s set to reteam with his La La Land star Ryan Gosling for the movie.

The film will be based on First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James Hansen, which chronicles how NASA managed to put a man on the moon, and how former test pilot Armstrong became that man. Oscar-winning Spotlight co-writer Josh Singer is writing the script.

While it’s not the sort of movie Chazelle has made before, following the tense brilliance of the unexpected Whiplash, and now with many expecting La La Land to make a strong showing at the Oscars, he’s proven he can probably handle anything. Gosling would also seem a good choice for the role, as he’s shown he can turn his hand to most thing. And it’s certainly true that an Armstrong biopic is long overdue.

Ryan Gosling Sought For Neil Armstrong Biopic, First Man

25th November 2015 By Tim Isaac

ryan-goslingHollywood really will make a movie about anything. After all, what did Neil Armstrong ever do, other than be the first man on the moon? Ok, fair enough, maybe that is a good enough reason to make a movie about him.

Whiplash’s Damien Chazelle is planning to helm a movie based on James Hansen’s Armstrong biography First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong, and he wants Ryan Gosling to star. Deadline reports that talks are taking place to the actor, but no deal has been struck yet.

The film would reunite Gosling and Chazelle, who’ve been working together recently on the upcoming La La Land.

Neil Armstrong was a aerospace engineer, naval aviator, test pilot who became NASA’s first civilian astronaut. Then, on his second and last trip into space he became the first man to walk on the moon. Afterwards he lived a far quieter life than he could have done, largely working as an educator and businessman. He died in 2012.
