Our Score

As they say, ‘The higher you climb, the further there is to fall’. That’s a fair description of Batman v Superman, a film that you certainly can’t fault for its ambition, but which can’t reach the heights it strives for despite its best efforts. After an exceedingly mixed reaction at cinemas, the film comes to Blu-ray in an Ultimate Edition form, which adds in an extra 30 minutes of footage and adds back in some of the violence that US censors wouldn’t permit to get it a PG-13 certificate.

Some hoped this new version would rectify all the flaws of the theatrical cut. It doesn’t do that, but it does help a little, particularly with some of the subplots where the theatrical version had to bits of them, but where they either petered out or didn’t make a whole lot of sense. It does add a couple of extra problems though. [Read more…]

Our Score

This film has been a long time coming and there are some great articles online chronicling the various attempts to bring Batman vs Superman and the Justice League to the silver screen. As you can tell from the subtitle, this film serves as an introduction to the Justice League films coming in 2017 and 2019, and the continuation of the DCCU (Detective Comics Cinematic Universe) which began with Man of Steel in 2013.

But in a film that is two and a half hours long I was concerned that they would rush the introduction to a wealth of new characters and backstories when it should just focus on the leads. Too many cooks and all. [Read more…]

Batman, Superman & Wonder Woman Gets Dawn Of Justice Character Posters

16th December 2015 By Tim Isaac

batman-v-superman-character-postersIt feels like the summer blockbuster season is starting earlier and earlier each year. A couple of years ago a massive movie like Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice wouldn’t have arrived until May at the earliest, but instead it’s arriving in March.

That means that once Star Wars is out of the way, we’re likely to get saturation hype for the film, as Warner Bros. has a lot riding on it. This isn’t just the first time the Man Of Steel and the Caped Crusader have been in a live-action movie together, it’s going to kick-off an entire interconnected DC Comics universe, and introduce us to the likes of Aquaman, The Flash and Wonder Woman, leading up to a two part Justice League extravaganza.

Wonder Woman is expected to play a major role in Dawn Of Justice, and to underline that, Gal Gadot’r lasso wielding superhero has now got a character poster, alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman. You can see them below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Trailer – Henry Cavill & Ben Affleck don’t see eye-to-eye

3rd December 2015 By Tim Isaac

batman-v-superman-face-off-slideNext March Warner Bros./DC is making its massive bid for a superhero universe of its own with Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. However while much has been teased about Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck’s Man Of Steel and Caped Crusader not being fans of one another, but the new trailer also gives us a glimpse of Wonder Woman and the fact that she may be key to getting the bat and alien to work together.

It also features Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and shows us that we haven’t completely seen the end of Michael Shannon’s Zod.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs.
