It’s easy to forget that before it was released Guardians of the Galaxy seemed like a massive gamble for Marvel. It was based on a property that wasn’t as well-known as the likes of Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America, had a very different tone to other Marvel movies, and its more explicitly sci-fi setting didn’t match what we’d seen from the Marvel Universe up to that point.
Now it seems obvious it was going to be a huge success, but that’s only because all the pieces came together perfectly, from the smart decision to hire James Gunn as writer/director, to casting Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star Lord. Now it’s on its way back with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which has just released its first trailer.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, Laura Haddock and Kurt Russell. Kevin Feige is producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz, Victoria Alonso, Nik Korda and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by James Gunn.
