There's little doubt that Britain loves Harry Potter, with the sixth magical instalment staying at the top of the UK weekend box office chart for a third weekend. Even more impressive is that the film is actually making more money during the week than it does at the weekend, which is highly unusual.
Thanks to kids being on summer holidays, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince took in more than £7.5 million over the last week to give it a total take so far of £40.5 million. It suggest that within the next week or so, the film will break into the UK all-time top 20, and has a good shot of outdoing the last three Potter films at the UK box office.
The movie trounced a slew of major new releases, with guinea pig flick G-Force coming in second with £2.4m (77% of its take came from 3D screenings), The Taking Of Pelham 123 in third with £1.7m and Land Of The Lost completely tanking with only £642,000 in its first three days. There were two other openers that did comparatively better, seeing as they went out on far fewer screens. Coco Before Chanel made £442,000 from less than 100 screens, while Bollywood flick Love Aaj Kal made £406,000 from only 52 screens (marking the highest opening for any Bollywood movie so far this year).
