Following the success of Submarine, Richard Ayoade is going slightly bigger scale for his follow up movie, The Double, which is based on a story by Dostoyevsky. Last summer Jesse Eisenberg was rumoured to be lined up for the main role, and now THR confirms that and says Mia Wasikowska is set to join the movie as well.
The Double is the tale of a Russian government clerk whose life unravels whenwhat he believes is a doppelganger of himself - who has the same name and history - begins working in his office. It's been described as 'Fight Club for bureaucrats'.
Ayoade is promising something funny, frightening and dream-like, a reflection on loneliness and our need to be loved. It's due to shoot this spring or summer, with Film4 helping to fund the movie.
