A few weeks ago it was reported that Marvel was putting together a deal with Game Of Thrones helmer Brian Kirk to direct Thor 2, but apparently that's all fallen apart, due to creative and financial issues (Marvel are legendary for being spendthrifts). Now Marvel is looking elsewhere, and Deadline reports that Monster director Patty Jenkins is in the frame for the movie.
She would be a very surprising choise as Monster is the only movie she's ever made and that was eight years ago. You'd think they'd want at least a little more evidence she could handle such a huge ensemble project, but the studio does like making left-field choices. Variety adds that Marvel is only in very early talks with Jenkins about the role and other who've been considered include Drew Goddard, James McTeigue, Noam Murro, and Breck Eisner.
While all this has been going on, Marvel president Kevin Fiege has been talking up Thor 2, and suggests Earth and Asgard aren't the only places the giant-hammered one might head. He told EW, "(The sequel will) take Thor literally to other worlds. (Thor 2 will) primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds."
So it look like Thor will be off on holiday! In case you don't know, the other places he could visit include:
- Alfheim: Land of the Light Elves
- Hel: Land of the dead
- Muspelheim: Land of the demons
- Nidavellir: Home of the dwarves
- Svartalfheim: Land of the Dark Elves
- Vanaheim: Land of the Vanir, a “sister race” of the Asgardians.
