Clash Of The Titans Tops The US Box Office

Although some were wondering whether the critics' negative reaction to Warner's rushed post-production conversion of Clash Of The Titans from 2D to 3D would hurt Clash of The Titans, audiences have once again shown their love of the extra dimension by giving the movie an impressive $61.4 million opening weekend in the US. A decent chunk of the gross came from the extra money cinemas are charging for 3D flicks, suggesting Warner's decision to pay the cash to convert the movie was a wise one.

In second place was Tyler Perry's annual filmic offering. If you don't known who Perry is, that wouldn't be particularly surprising, as his film don't generally come out in the UK at all, but they're extremely popular in the US, largely with African America audiences, who have turned everything he's made in the past few years into a box office juggernaut, and him into one of the richest people in the entertainment business. This year's film, Why Did I Get Married Too?, directed, written by and starring Perry, alongside Janet Jackson, gave him his second best opening ever, with a $30.1 million haul.

The only other new entry in the top 10 was the Miley Cyrus drama The Last Song, which took $16 million over the weekend and $25 million since it debuted last Wednesday. It's an okay start, although some had expected the film to do a little better.
