Buried Screenwriter Heads For An ATM

Who knew cash machines could be so dangerous?

Screenwriter Chris Sparling is hot right now. His script for Buried landed on the Black List of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Now the film's been made, with Ryan Reynolds starring as a man trapped underground in a coffin with only a short time to escape. It recently sparked a bidding war at Sundance, with Lionsgate eventually snapping up the distribution rights for millions.

Now Sparling has a new project underway, as the company that made Buried has picked up his new screenplay, ATM,  with David Brooks hired to make his feature debut as director with the film. Although details on the movie are a bit thin on the ground, Variety says it's about "three co-workers who - on a routine stop at an ATM - unexpectedly end up in a desperate fight for their lives". Well, that's not exactly surprising, because if people expected to end up in a desperate fight for their lives if they use a cash machine, I'd imagine their popularity would wane very quickly.

There's no news on the cast or when the film might go into production, but we'd imagne it'll be pretty soon, while Sparling is still the toast of the town.
