Are they actually going to make Ghostbusters 3? There's been an awful lot of nuggets and titbits over the last few months about the plans for the film, but so far, nobody has been able to come forward and say, 'Yes, GB3 is definitely going to happen'.
However it seems we're moving closer to that point now, as Egon Spengler himself, Harold Ramis has said that the plan is to shoot the movie next summer and release it in 2011. He's been speaking to Heeb and told them that, "Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future … GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011."
That certainly sounds like plans are moving ahead, although it shouldn't be forgotten that it wasn't all that long ago that Dan Aykroyd said that the film would already be shooting by now. Maybe from now on, journos shouldn't ask anyone involved in the original Ghostbusters movies about the new follow-up, as with all the titbits and assumption, the wait is getting agonising, especially as the film is still at the stage where it could be called off tomorrow, especially as most of the original cast, director Ivan Reitman and Columbia Pictures all have the right to veto the project if they genuinley object to it.
