Golden Globe Nominations Announced

Up In The Air and Nine lead the pack

Quite why the awards given out by a couple hundred crusty film reviewers have become so important is anyone's guess, but the Golden Globe nominees have been announced, with Up In The Air leading the way with six nods, closely followed Rob Marshall's musical Nine with five and Ingourious Basterds and Avatar with four apiece.

With Jason Reitman's Up In The Air having already won the National Board Of Review's Best Film Award, it's sure now to be a strong contender for the Best Picture Oscar, while star George Clooney will be seen as a good candidate in the Best Actor race. It also has to be good news for Avatar, as while toe of its nomination are for music, it'll also be competing in the Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director categories, which should lift its critical status as an awards contender.

However while no film has really come along and dominated the running with a vast amount of nominations, the most interesting thing is the broad range of films represented, with movies like The Hangover getting into the Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy category and Sandra Bullock getting nominated in the Best Actress - Musical Or Comedy caetgory for The Proposal. There's also the obligatory Meryl Streep nominations for both It's Complicated and Julia & Julia.

Take a look below for the film nominees, which include nods for everything from District 9 to Duplicity. It certainly suggest it's been a strong year for film, although it's difficult to see this as helping sort out who is most likely to win big at the Oscars. You also also hop over to Goldenglobes.org for the full list including TV noms.
