If all the rumours swirling around are true, Tobey Maguire is going to be an exceptionally busy boy over the next couple of years. While he's already locked in for Spider-man 4, which will shoot next year, Latino Review reckon he may end up playing Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.
The website reports that "I recently got a tip that during promoting the film BROTHERS at the Four Seasons in New York last month, Tobey Maguire was having a conversation and was asked which director he would like to work with next?
"Tobey’s answer? 'Guillermo del Toro'
"Know what else Tobey said? 'We may have something here in the near future.'"
Although that's a mile away from saying that the Maguire/Del Toro project will be The Hobbit, Latino Review then checked around and apparently Tobey's agents are indeed in the early stages of talks over the role of the young Baggins. However it should be stressed that at this stage it is just talks, as both Del Toro and Peter Jackson have said that casting has only just begun and they're currently talking to both known actors and unknowns for the role.
However if that weren't enough to make him ridiculously busy, Pajiba reports that Tobey's also attached to Prisoners Of Trebek, which is based on a true story of a man who attempts to master the quiz show Jeopardy, but ultimately finds himself and falls in love. The light-hearted comedy, which is said to have Charlie Kaufman-esque qualities, has a script by William Wheeler (The Hoax). It'd certainly be an good role for Maguire, who's shown in the likes of Wonder Boys that he's not bad at comedy, but in recent years he's only been very serious or shooting webs out of his wrists.
Oh, and in case you're very British and don't know what the title Prisoners Of Trebek refers to, Alex Trebek is the man who hosts Jeopardy in the US.
However we'd imagine scheduling would be a nightmare for all this, especially with Spider-man 4 already on his plate, so don't be surprised if Tobey doesn't end up playing Bilbo after all.
