After reshoots and delays (as well as changes of editor and composer), it was presumed that Universal was going to play it safe with The Wolfman and ensure it had a PG-13 rating. After all, that happens to half the horror films that haven't had production problems.
With Wolfman having a tricky time getting into the can and production costs growing, normally studios can be relied up under those circumstances to hack things up to ensure a PG-13 rating. They think that'll get them the widest audience possible - although of course may horror fans disagree.
However news has now come through that the studio hasn't wimped out and that they're sticking with the longer, bloodier (and supposedly better) cut of The Wolfman, as /Film reports that the movie has just been rated R by the MPAA in the States for “bloody horror, violence and gore.”
So it seems Benicio Del Toro will be able to let the blood fly when he arrives on cinema screen on February, which has to be good news.
