Danny Elfman Leaves The Wolfman

New composer brought in for troubled gothic tale

I still can't help but hope that The Wolfman is going to be good, but the portents aren't looking promising. The movie got a new director only a couple of weeks before filming began, there's been reports of extensive reshoots and it's had its release date delayed a couple of times, all of which suggest a film that's in trouble. Now comes the news, via Cinemusic, that composer Danny Elfman has left the project.

The official reason is that it is down to scheduling conflicts, and that the shift from a November to February release means he can't stick around and finish his work, although it once again hints at a production in trouble. While many love Danny Elfman's scores anyway, it's an even bigger shame that he's leaving Wolfman, as he's apparently already written a full, grand gothic score for the movie, but with the film still being re-edited, he won't now be able to complete it.

Elfman has been replaced by former Tangerine Dream member Paul Haslinger, who wrote the forgettable scores for the likes Death Race, Underworld and Shoot 'Em Up.

There's still the chance that against all odds Wolfman is going to be great, but it's certainly facing an uphill battle.
