Anna Kendrick has already shown she’s got musical chops in the likes of Pitch Perfect, and now she’s lending her voice to an animated musical, DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls, according to Variety.
She’ll be Poppy, a relentlessly upbeat princess who’s at the centre of the film, which is based around the popular figures that many people will remember from their youth as pencil toppers. The movie will apparently reveal what Trolls fans all over the world have been waiting for… the story behind the colourful nature of the Trolls trademark gravity-defying hair!
Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After) is set to direct and he commented, “Anna has proven herself to be a brilliant actress with an amazing singing voice. She’ll inject Poppy with the exact mix of spirit, sass and song that will no doubt give a whole new life to the iconic Troll dolls.”
Troll dolls were born in 1959 when Danish fisherman and woodcutter Thomas Dam, who was too poor to afford a Christmas present for his young daughter Lajla, carved a doll for her based on the legendary Scandinavian troll. They soon became one of the biggest toy crazes of the 1960s. The Trolls experienced a resurgence in the 1990s and their uniquely endearing faces and shocks of colourful hair continue to capture the hearts and imaginations of fans around the world.
