While many people would be happy if Tom Hiddleston just popped up in every movie as Loki, he’s going to show off some new skills in I Saw The Light, as he’ll be playing country music legend Hank Williams, according to Deadline.
The biopic will chart Williams’ quick rise to fame, as well as the toll it took on his personal life (just one day I want a music biopic where someone becomes famous and doesn’t have a terrible time because of it). The musician is best known for hit songs such as Your Cheatin’ Heart, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry and Hey Good Lookin, so it’ll give Hiddleston a chance to show off his singing skill. Williams tragically passed away at the age of 29 from heart failure.
Marc Abraham is directing from his own screenplay, which is based on Colin Escott’s biography. The producers have also made a deal for the rights to Hank Williams’ music catalogue for use in the film, which should add a touch of authenticity. Shooting will begin in October.
