Last month it was Matt Damon had attached himself to the sci-fi flick The Martian, but at the same direct Drew Goddard dropped out, due to his commitments to Sony’s Spider-man spin-off, The Sinister Six.
Now a replacement might have been found as THR reports that Ridley Scott is in talks to direct the 20th Century Fox movie.
Based on the self-published e-book by Andy Weir, The Martian follows an astronaut who becomes stranded on Mars and must figure out how to survive long enough to return to Earth.
The movie has been described as a cross between Apollo 13 and Cast Away (they seem to be deliberately avoiding mentioning Gravity, as the premise is bound to make some people wonder whether this film will end up as Cuarons movie’s poor cousin).
It’s believed they’ll stick work from Goddard’s screenplay. It’s not clear when it will shoot though.
