During the development of a new version of Annie, the fact that Will Smith and Jay-Z were both involved with updating the score made them assume this would be a full-on hip hop take on the classic musical.
However the first trailers have been keen to show us its not going to be too far from the musical many know and love the sun will still be coming out tomorrow and it remains a hard knock life, even if it is set in the modern day.
The plot also remains the same, with orphan Annie (Quvenzhane Wallis) having a hard-luck life in the foul orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). Shes then taken in by the filthy rich Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx). In this version hes running for office and initially just wants Annie so the press will se him being nice to an orphan, but he soon falls for the plucky youngsters charms. And then Annies real parents are found, or are they?
Will Gluck is directing from his own screenplay, which was originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson. Annie is currently set for release December 25th, 2014.
