Last September many were surprised by the news that JK Rowling had agreed to write the script for a spin-off from the Harry Potter series, based on one of the boy wizard’s textbooks, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Now the slightly less surprising news comes that rather than a single movie, NYT in a profile Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara that Fantastic Beasts is being envisioned as a trilogy.
Rowling is already well on the way to getting the screenplay ready, as she told Emma Watson last month in an interview that she completed the first draft in just 12 weeks – she’d had help though, as she’d previously written a rough draft that she thought was just going to be for herself and her kid, but after Tsujihara convinced, will now become a set of movies.
In the Harry Potter books, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a book by the fictitious Newt Scamander. The films will follow Scamander and the magical creatures he tracks down.
