Bradley Cooper seems to have become slightly obsessed with movies with the word ‘American’ in the title. He’s just come off the extremely successful American Hustle, he’s been trying to put together American Sniper, and now THR reports he’s signed up American Blood.
The film is based on an upcoming crime novel Ben Sanders, which centers on Marshall Grade (Bradley Cooper), a former NYPD cop who became a mob informant and is now part of the witness protection program in New Mexico. Despite the fact he’s supposed to be trying to maintain his anonymity, he gets involved in a missing person’s case.
The hope is that this can become a franchise, as Sanders it already planning a series of novels based around the character. At the moment the American Blood book isn’t even finished, but the idea and partially complete manuscript was enough to spark the interest of Warner Bros and another rival studio, along with several TV production companies.
Andrew Sodroski has already been hired to write the screenplay adaptation, with Bradley Cooper, John Lesher, Adam Kassan, Brendan Deenan and Pouya Shabazian set to produce. It’s not known when it will shoot, but as the novel isn’t due out until 2015, it’s likely to be a while.
Cooper will next be heard as Rocket Raccoon in Guardians Of The Galaxy, although we’re presuming he’ll be lobbying to get the title changed to Americans Of The Galaxy.
