It seems basketball star Lebron James really wants to make a splash in the movies. A few months ago he signed up to star alongside Kevin Hart in the comedy Ballers. Now he wants to follow in Michael Jordan’s footsteps, as Deadline reports that he is attached to star play himself in Warner Bros.’ Space Jam 2, a follow-up to the studio’s 1996 live-action/animation mix.
Willie Ebersol, the son of NBC sports broadcaster Dick Ebersol, wrote the screenplay, while his brother, Charlie Ebersol, is set to produce. No plot details are known, although it’s expected that several other current NBA stars will join the production, appearing alongside the likes of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig.
The original Space Jam starred Bill Murray, Wayne Knight and Theresa Randle, along with NBA players such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Danny Ainge, Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues, Vlade Divac, Cedric Ceballos, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley and Paul Westphal. It followed a groups of player who decide to help out the Looney Tunes characters to play a basketball game against a group of aliens.
Space Jame 2 currently doesn’t have a director attached at this time, and it isn’t known when it might shoot.
