Last week it was reported that producers were closing in on who they wanted to play Kyle Reese in the upcoming Terminator: Genesis. It was down to Boyd Holbrook and Jai Courtney. Now THR reports that it’s Courtney who’s got the part.
The actor joins Jason Clarke as John Connor and Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor. Arnold Schwarzengger is also returning. In the original 1984 classic The Terminator, Kyle Reese (played by Michael Biehn) was the soldier sent back in time by resistance leader John Connor to save his mother Sarah. He ultimately became John’s Connor’s father.
Genesis is being planned as the beginning of a new, stand-alone trilogy. It’s believed that the story will take place both in the future and in an undetermined time in the past (not least because the actor playing John is significantly older than who will be his mother), most likely before John was even born.
Alan Taylor is directing from a script by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis.
