For several years there’s been talk of making a big screen Triffids movie, with the likes of Sam Raimi attached to direct. However we haven’t had much news for a while, but it seems the idea has been resurrected, as Deadline reports that Mike Newell (Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire) is hoping to direct.
Raimi is still involved as a producer, alongside Don Murphy, Mark Gordon and Susan Montford.
John Wyndhams original tale, The Day Of The Triffids, revolves around a meteor shower which results in 99.9% of the world population going blind. The meteors also release aggressive plants dubbed Triffids, who begin to attack the blind masses, with a few non-blind survivors trying to fend off the devastating attack.
Neil Cross (Luther) has written the screenplay, although it’s not certain when it might shoot.
