After the release of each Scorsese movie for the last few years, it’s been said he would make Silence next. The fact he constantly kept putting off making the movie even led to a court case where some of the producers claimed it was taking too long and Scorsese’s hold on the material was preventing them from actually getting the film made.
However now it seems it’s really going to happen (although it has slightly been delayed from when it was going to shoot last summer). Way back in May 2013 Andrew Garfield signed up to star, and now he has some company, as Showbiz411 reports that Girls actor Adam Driver has joined the movie.
Set in the 17th Century, Silence follows Father Rodrigues (Garfield), a Portuguese Jesuit priest who travels to Japan to confront his mentor, after rumours surface that he has abandoned the church. Ken Watanabe will portray Father Rodrigues Japanese interpreter. It’s believed Driver will play another Jesuit priest.
Martin Scorsese co-wrote the screenplay alongside Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York), with shooting planned for this summer.
