Over the years there’s been much talk about making a movie about James Bond creator Ian Fleming, who had a rather interesting life beyond writing about 007, however it’s TV that’s come through, with BBC America and Sky Atlantic making the mini-series Fleming, which stars Dominic Cooper in the title role.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring DOMINIC COOPER (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Devils Double) with LARA PULVER (True Blood, Sherlock), ANNABELLE WALLIS (Hello Carter, The Tudors), LESLEY MANVILLE (Maleficent, Another Year), ANNA CHANCELLOR (The Hour, How I Live Now) and SAMUEL WEST (Mr Selfridge, Hyde Park on Hudson). FLEMING: THE MAN WHO WOULD BE BOND takes a no holds barred look at Ian Fleming, the man behind the James Bond legend whose real life was as exciting, eventful and sexually charged as his famous creation.’
His father was in the government and during WWII he worked for Naval Intelligence, helping with secret plan to misinform the enemy as well as to steal their secrets, as well as setting up a special Commando Unit specialising in subterfuge. It’s certainly a story worth telling, and it’ll be interesting to see what the BBC & Sky has done with it.
