Disney recently announced an October 2015 release date for its planned live-action version of The Jungle, which Jon Favreau may direct. However, Warner Bros, which had been developing its own Jungle Book flick before news of Disney’s broke, isn’t just giving up, as Deadline reports Alejandro Gonzá Iñárrito is in early talks to direct the film.
The 21 Grams and Babel filmmaker would take on the tale of the Indian boy Mowgli, who is raised by wolves and lives among the animals in the jungle. It first appeared in magazines in 1893-94 and was written by Rudyard Kipling.
Callie Kloves will be writing the script for the Warner movie. There’s no news at the moment about when it might shoot.
